The map
North Brunswick is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, just southwest of New Brunswick. Its map is typical of postwar American suburbs: winding residential streets, loops and cul-de-sacs arranged between major roads, with patches of parkland, lakes and commercial areas along the highways.
US Route 1 runs through the township, one of the main corridors between New York and Philadelphia, and Route 130 crosses the area as well. The proximity to New Brunswick and Rutgers University shapes the community, and many residents commute along these roads or by rail to jobs across the region.
A North Brunswick map poster captures the rhythm of suburban design. The straight lines of the highways contrast with the soft curves of residential streets, and green spaces and lakes break up the pattern. It is a map for those who grew up in the township or have made a home in this part of central New Jersey.
The highway runs through the township in a long straight line, flanked by commercial areas and forming the main axis of the map.
Neighbourhoods are laid out with loops and cul-de-sacs, creating soft, rounded patterns that fill the spaces between the main roads.
Green spaces and small lakes are scattered across the township, adding open areas that balance the density of the suburban streets.
