Jianguang lies in Jiangxi province, in the lowlands south of Nanchang, where the Gan River system spreads across a broad agricultural plain. On a map, the town is a dense cluster of streets surrounded by a fine pattern of fields, irrigation channels and small ponds that fill the landscape around it.
The streets show the usual mix for a growing Chinese town: an older, tighter core and newer, wider roads laid out in straighter blocks at the edges. Main roads run out toward neighbouring towns and villages, and small settlements dot the farmland between them.
