Reddipālaiyam lies on the western side of the Chennai metropolitan area in Tamil Nadu, on low, level ground that has seen steady growth as the city expands. From above, the pattern is typical of the region's fast-growing edges: a few older lanes around a village core, surrounded by newer plots laid out in straight rows of residential streets.
The map shows how growth has happened piece by piece. Blocks of housing appear in small rectangular patches, each with its own orientation, fitted between main roads and remaining open land.
