The map

About this Ostfildern map poster

Ostfildern lies on the Fildern plateau just southeast of Stuttgart. It was formed in 1975 by merging several villages, including Nellingen, Ruit, Kemnat and Scharnhausen, and the map still shows these separate cores: small clusters of older, irregular streets surrounded by fields and newer housing.

The largest addition is the Scharnhausener Park district, built on the site of former military barracks and designed as a modern mixed-use quarter with a clear, planned layout. A Stadtbahn tram line links the area with central Stuttgart, running across the map as a long connecting thread.

An Ostfildern map poster reads almost like a small archipelago. Each village has its own knot of streets, with open land in between, and the planned district adds a sharper geometry. It is a map that shows how a modern town can be assembled from older pieces.

Merged village cores

Nellingen, Ruit, Kemnat, Scharnhausen and others each keep a distinct cluster of older streets, visible as separate knots on the map.

02

Scharnhausener Park

This newer district, built on former barracks land, has a clear planned layout that contrasts with the organic village cores around it.

03

Tram link to Stuttgart

The Stadtbahn line crosses the plateau and connects Ostfildern with Stuttgart, drawing a long line that ties the separate parts together.
