The map

About this Otegen Batyra map poster

Otegen Batyra is a settlement in Almaty Region, in the Ili district, north of the city of Almaty. On a map it spreads across flat land in a fairly regular pattern of long, parallel streets, with main roads running toward Almaty and toward the north of the region. Plots and gardens fill the spaces between the houses.

The settlement is named after Otegen Batyr, a Kazakh hero of the eighteenth century. Its position near Almaty means it has grown steadily as people have settled on the city's outskirts, and newer streets extend the older grid outward into former farmland and open ground.

An Otegen Batyra map poster shows this orderly, expanding layout with clarity: the long residential rows, the road links to Almaty, and the open land around the edges. For families who have built homes here, the map is a record of a place taking shape, drawn in clean, simple lines.
