The map
Otradnoye lies in the Kirovsky District of Leningrad Oblast, on the southern bank of the Neva river as it flows from Lake Ladoga toward St Petersburg. The river dominates its map, a broad, steady band of water running along the town's northern edge. Streets and housing stretch in a long strip parallel to the bank, with forest and marshland pressing in from the south.
The layout is linear rather than centred. A main road and the railway run roughly alongside the river, and residential blocks, both apartment buildings and private houses, fill the ground between them. An Otradnoye map poster emphasises this ribbon-like shape: a town drawn along a waterway, with short streets running down toward the Neva and larger blocks set back from the shore.
The stretch of the Neva near Otradnoye includes the Ivanovskiye rapids, one of the river's few fast sections, and the area has long been tied to river transport and shipbuilding. Today it is a quiet satellite town within reach of St Petersburg, where the river remains the most defining feature.

A main road and a railway run alongside the river, creating long horizontal lines that the rest of the street network hangs from.
Beyond the residential blocks, woodland and wet ground close in, leaving a clean edge between the town and the surrounding green space.

Why Otradnoye
Otradnoye suits those with roots along the Neva, people who commute into St Petersburg, or anyone who remembers summers by the river. The long waterfront gives the poster a calm, horizontal composition.
