About this Palhoça map poster
Palhoça lies on the mainland south of Florianópolis, across the narrow waters that separate Santa Catarina Island from the coast. It is part of Greater Florianópolis. On a map its built-up areas run along the shore of the southern bay and along the BR-101 highway, which crosses the municipality from north to south. Behind them, the land rises into forested hills and mountains.
A large part of the municipality belongs to the Serra do Tabuleiro State Park, one of the largest protected areas in Santa Catarina. It gives the southern and western parts of the map a wide, unbuilt texture. The Pedra Branca district stands out in contrast: a planned neighbourhood developed around a university campus, with a denser and deliberately compact street layout.
