The map

About this Phibun Mangsahan map poster

Phibun Mangsahan lies on the Mun River in Ubon Ratchathani province, in the far east of Thailand, upstream of where the Mun joins the Mekong. On a map the town stretches along the riverbank, its streets set back from the water on flat ground. A bridge carries the main road across the river and links the town to the rest of the province.

The town is best known for Kaeng Saphue, a stretch of rapids where the Mun flows over broad sheets of rock. When the water is low, the rocks lie exposed across much of the channel. The site has long been a place for local outings and a traditional gathering point during Songkran. Beyond the town, rice fields cover the plain.

A Phibun Mangsahan map poster follows the shape the river gives the town: a band of streets along the bank, the curve of the Mun and the open farmland of the Isan plain beyond. In a minimal style the river becomes the central gesture of the design, with the town arranged neatly along its course.

01

Kaeng Saphue rapids

Right by the town, the Mun spreads over rocky shelves at Kaeng Saphue, the feature Phibun Mangsahan is known for across Ubon Ratchathani province.

02

Mun River bank

The town lines the riverbank, so the water forms one long edge of the map and gives the composition a strong natural boundary.

03

Isan rice plain

Away from the river the land is flat and cultivated, crossed by straight roads and field boundaries that fade out toward the edges of the frame.
