Saḩar lies on the eastern side of the Sanaa area, in the high basin where Yemen's capital spreads out at around 2,200 metres. On the map the location sits where the city's grid starts to break up against rising terrain: dense residential blocks on one side, and the mountains that close the basin on the other.
The streets are mostly laid out as a practical grid, with main roads carrying traffic toward the city centre and outward to the highland towns. Dry watercourses, which fill only after rains, cut shallow lines across the plan. Beyond the built-up edge, the map gives way to terraced slopes and bare ridges, which show as tight, rippling line work.
