About this Sānand map poster
Sānand lies west of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, on the flat plains that extend toward the Nal Sarovar wetlands. On a map the old town forms a compact cluster of lanes, while around it the landscape is divided into large rectangular plots of industrial estates, logistics yards and new residential developments linked by wide roads.
The town became widely known in 2008, when Tata Motors moved production of its Nano car here after leaving West Bengal. Other automobile and manufacturing companies followed, turning Sānand into one of the main industrial centres of the Ahmedabad region and changing the scale of the landscape around the historic town.
