The map

About this Sderot map poster

Sderot lies in the north-western Negev in southern Israel, on open farmland a few kilometres from the Gaza Strip. It began in the early 1950s as a transit camp for new immigrants and grew into a development town. Its map still shows that planned origin: neighbourhoods were built in phases, and each has its own internal pattern.

From above, the town is compact and clearly bounded. Curving residential streets and apartment blocks are arranged around local centres and green spaces, and main roads define the edges. Beyond them the land is almost entirely farmland, divided into large rectangular fields, so the town looks like a dense island in an open plain.

Within Israel, Sderot is known for its music scene, which produced several well-known bands. It is also known for the long period of rocket fire it has endured, which shaped daily life and the design of its buildings. A Sderot map poster sets that history aside and focuses on the place itself, its streets and parks drawn as a calm, readable pattern.

01

Phased neighbourhoods

Districts built in different decades have different street layouts, from tight early blocks to later curving plans, so the map reads like a record of how the town grew.

02

Ring of main roads

Main roads loop around and through the town, giving it a firm outer edge and separating the residential areas from the surrounding farmland.

03

Open fields

Large, regular fields surround Sderot on every side. They leave plenty of empty space on the poster and make the compact town the clear centre of attention.
