The map
Shahdol is a district headquarters in eastern Madhya Pradesh, in a region of low hills, forest and farmland with a large Adivasi population. Coal mining is a major part of the area's economy, and the railway that runs through town connects it to other industrial centres in central India.
From above, the railway is the clearest line. It crosses the town in a firm, steady line, and the main roads meet it at a few points. Around it the town spreads outward in a loose pattern of lanes and neighbourhoods, with markets and government buildings near the centre, and the grid breaks up into scattered settlements and fields toward the edges.
A Shahdol map poster keeps all of that in a single, clear composition. The straight rail line anchors the frame, and the finer street pattern builds up around it. It is a good choice for anyone who grew up here, worked in the coalfields, or passed through often enough on the railway for the town to feel familiar.
The rail corridor runs straight through Shahdol and divides the frame, the most geometric element on a map that is otherwise loosely laid out.
As the district headquarters, the town has a concentrated core of markets and offices, which shows up as the densest part of the street network.
Toward the edges, dense streets give way to villages, fields and forest, with the countryside close to the town in every direction.
