The map

About this Sherwood map poster

Sherwood is a suburb in central Arkansas, just north of North Little Rock and the Arkansas River. It has no old downtown grid. Instead, the map is made of looping residential streets, cul-de-sacs and long collector roads that wind across gently rolling, wooded land.

The city grew mainly in the second half of the twentieth century, as the Little Rock area expanded. Its layout reflects that period. Neighbourhoods are designed as self-contained loops, each joined to a few main roads, with patches of woodland and open green space left between them.

A Sherwood map poster makes that suburban pattern unexpectedly graphic. Seen from above, the curving streets form organic shapes, a little like leaf veins, and the wooded gaps between subdivisions give the drawing room to breathe. It is a very different image from the rigid grids of older American towns.

01

Looping streets

Residential streets curve and double back on themselves, ending in cul-de-sacs. Together they form rounded, branching shapes that give the map most of its character.

02

Collector roads

A handful of longer roads carry traffic between the neighbourhoods and towards North Little Rock. On the map they read as the spine each subdivision hangs from.

03

Wooded gaps

Stretches of trees and open land separate many of the neighbourhoods. These gaps leave blank spaces that break up the street pattern.

Why Sherwood

A map that means something

A map of Sherwood suits people who bought their first house there, raised children on one of those curving streets, or moved away and miss central Arkansas. It is a personal map of an ordinary, well-loved place.

Add a title, a subtitle such as the year you moved in, and a coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to match the room. Framed and unframed prints are both available.
