About this Shuangshi map poster
Shuangshi lies in the western part of Chongqing municipality, where the Sichuan Basin breaks into low hills and folded ridges. The land here is rarely flat for long, so on the map the settlement follows the valley floors. Streets gather where the ground allows them and spread along the roads that lead out toward neighbouring towns.
Around the built-up core the landscape is intensely worked. Small fields and terraces follow the contours of the slopes, and narrow streams and irrigation ponds are scattered between them. The result is a fine, irregular pattern that looks almost like a fingerprint in monochrome. Roads twist to follow the terrain, and the town's grid has to bend to fit the hills.
