The map

About this Sonīpat map poster

Sonīpat lies in Haryana, immediately north of Delhi, within the National Capital Region. The older town forms a compact, irregular cluster of lanes and bazaars. Around it extend newer sectors, planned in the Haryana manner as large numbered blocks. To the east, the flat farmland of the Yamuna plain stretches toward the river.

The national highway to Panipat and Punjab, following the old Grand Trunk Road, passes east of the city. The belt along it has become a centre of education, with Ashoka University and O.P. Jindal Global University among the campuses located toward the Delhi border. Industrial estates and new residential townships fill much of the land in between.

A Sonīpat map poster records a city in the middle of change, where the old core, planned sectors and open fields are still visible side by side. The rigid geometry of the sectors, the looser pattern of the original town and the straight highway corridors combine into a layered, graphic composition, and at larger sizes the sector parks appear as small pale squares.

01

Old town centre

The historic heart of Sonīpat is a tight mesh of narrow lanes and markets, the densest and most irregular area on the map.

02

Planned sectors

Newer residential areas are laid out as large rectangular sectors with internal grids and parks, their straight edges contrasting with the older town.

03

Highway corridor

The national highway runs north from Delhi past the city, with campuses, dhabas and industrial estates strung along it, forming a strong vertical line.

A map that means something

Sonīpat is now home to students, faculty and young families as well as long-established local households. A map of the city can mark a university chapter, a first home in a new sector or the town where a family has always lived.

Add a title and subtitle, such as a campus name or a graduation date, keep or edit the coordinates, and choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Blueprint. The $9 download includes every size as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
