The map
Takoradi forms one half of the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi, capital of Ghana's Western Region. It lies on the Gulf of Guinea, and the map is anchored by its harbour: breakwaters reaching into the sea, quays and rail sidings lining the shore. Inland, the town spreads over gently rolling ground, with residential areas linked by a handful of main roads to Sekondi further along the coast.
The centre of Takoradi is organised around Market Circle, a large circular market from which streets radiate outward. It is one of the most distinctive shapes on the poster, a clean ring in the middle of the street network. Around it lie shops, transport yards and older commercial blocks, while newer suburbs spread outward toward the edges of the city.
Takoradi Harbour, opened in 1928, was Ghana's first deep-water port, and the city has since become the centre of the country's offshore oil industry, which began production in 2010. A Takoradi map poster shows how the port and the market shaped the town, two strong forms held together by a modest network of streets along the coast.
A round market at the heart of the city, with streets fanning out on every side, forms the most memorable single shape on the poster.
Long breakwaters enclose the harbour basin, and their straight arms stretch into the Gulf of Guinea as bold lines against the open sea.
Roads run from Takoradi to Sekondi, showing how the two towns have grown together into a single urban area along the coast.

Why Takoradi
Takoradi is home to generations of port workers and traders and, more recently, people drawn by the oil industry, many of whom came from elsewhere. A map of the town becomes a record of time spent on this stretch of coast.
Every poster can be personalised with a title, subtitle and coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white for a crisp look, or Paper, Noir, Blueprint or Sand, then order HD files in six print sizes or a printed poster, framed if you like.
