Touih lies in the Bas-Sassandra District of southwestern Ivory Coast, a humid, forested region that has become one of the country's main farming areas. On a map the town appears as a modest cluster of streets gathered around the roads passing through it. Beyond that small centre the pattern loosens quickly into tracks that lead out into the surrounding plantations and villages.
Bas-Sassandra is closely tied to cocoa, and much of the land around towns here is given over to smallholder farms. That shapes the map. Instead of suburbs, the edges show a network of narrow paths, each one leading to fields or hamlets hidden under the tree cover.
