About this Tshela map poster
Tshela lies in the far west of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the province of Kongo Central, not far from the borders with Angola's Cabinda enclave. The land around the town is part of the Mayombe, a region of hills and dense forest, so the roads twist to follow the ridges and valleys.
The town was once the inland terminus of the Mayumbe railway, a narrow-gauge line that ran from the port of Boma. The railway no longer operates, but its route helped shape the town's location and layout. On the map, Tshela's streets form a modest cluster, surrounded by a looser network of tracks leading into the countryside.
