Highway spine
The main road through town is its organising line. Most commercial streets cluster along it, and on the poster it gives the map a clear direction.

The map
Tulu Bolo is a town in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, in the highlands south-west of Addis Ababa. Like many Ethiopian road towns, from above it takes its shape from the highway that runs through it. The busiest streets and the densest building sit close to that road, and quieter lanes branch off at irregular angles.
Beyond the edge of town, the map changes quickly into cultivated land. Field boundaries, footpaths and small clusters of homesteads make a loose, fine texture that is very different from the solid blocks near the centre. The high plateau setting means the town is surrounded by open country rather than by other suburbs.
A Tulu Bolo map poster shows the plain, honest structure of a working market town. The main road forms a strong spine, the side streets give it rhythm, and the countryside around it provides calm open space. It is a modest subject that looks good in a minimalist print, especially for someone with a personal link to the place.
The main road through town is its organising line. Most commercial streets cluster along it, and on the poster it gives the map a clear direction.
Away from the main road, lanes branch at varied angles and bend with the terrain. The result is a looser pattern than a planned grid.
The built-up area ends abruptly in fields and scattered homesteads. The quiet surroundings frame the town and make the centre stand out.

Why Tulu Bolo
A map of a hometown carries more meaning than its size might suggest. For people who grew up in Tulu Bolo, or have family there, a poster keeps the familiar streets close wherever they now live.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be edited, for example to add a name in Amharic or Afaan Oromo alongside the English. Choose from five styles, from Classic black & white to Sand. It comes as a $9 HD download or a printed poster.
