Uherský Brod lies in the Zlín region of southeastern Moravia, in the valley of the Olšava river. The map shows a compact historic centre with a main square and narrow streets. Around it are residential districts, industrial areas and railway lines that follow the valley. To the east, the land rises gradually toward the White Carpathians and the Slovak border.
The town is closely associated with John Amos Comenius, the seventeenth-century educator and philosopher, and has a museum dedicated to his life and work. It is also home to Česká zbrojovka, one of the country's best-known firearms makers. The company's large factory site is one of the most prominent features on the map.
