About this Vevey map poster
From above, Vevey is defined by water. The town sits on the northern shore of Lake Geneva, and its streets are laid out along that edge, with a long quay tracing the lakefront and the old centre packed close behind it. To the south there is nothing but open lake, which gives the map a clean, heavy boundary and leaves a wide field of empty space across the bottom of the sheet.
Behind the shoreline, the grid loosens as the ground rises. Roads bend and switch back up the slope toward the villages above, and the railway follows the shore through town. The small Veveyse river cuts down from the hills and reaches the lake on the western side of the centre, a thin line that divides the street pattern before it disappears into the water.
Vevey is known as the home of Nestlé's global headquarters and for its long association with Charlie Chaplin, who spent his final decades nearby and is remembered by a statue on the quay.
