About this Vieques map poster
Vieques lies just east of mainland Puerto Rico. It is a long, narrow island running east to west, with a coastline of many bays, points and beaches. From above, a low line of hills runs through the centre, and the south coast is scalloped by a series of small coves.
The inhabited area is concentrated in the middle of the island. Isabel Segunda, the main town, faces north toward the ferry route. Esperanza is a smaller settlement on the south coast. Large areas at the eastern and western ends were used by the US Navy until 2003 and are now a national wildlife refuge, so they appear largely empty on the map.
