Lakefront bluff
A pronounced bluff separates the upper city from the lakeshore. On the map it is the line where the dense grid gives way to harbour, rail and open land.

The map
Waukegan lies on the western shore of Lake Michigan, north of Chicago, and is the seat of Lake County, Illinois. From above, the city is divided in two by a steep bluff. The downtown grid sits on the high ground, and the harbour, rail lines and former industrial land lie on the flat strip beside the water below.
Wooded ravines cut into the bluff, carrying small streams toward the lake and interrupting the street grid in soft, winding shapes. To the north, the shoreline continues into dune and beach country around Illinois Beach State Park. A Waukegan map poster captures the contrast between the orderly blocks above and the open, sandy lakefront beneath.
Waukegan is known as the hometown of the writer Ray Bradbury, who drew on its ravines and streets for the fictional Green Town of Dandelion Wine. The comedian Jack Benny also grew up here. The city's harbour and lakefront, once dominated by heavy industry, are gradually being opened back up to the public.
A pronounced bluff separates the upper city from the lakeshore. On the map it is the line where the dense grid gives way to harbour, rail and open land.
Narrow wooded ravines wind down toward Lake Michigan, breaking the regular street pattern. They inspired the ravine at the centre of Ray Bradbury's Green Town stories.
The harbour's breakwaters and basins jut into the lake beside downtown, a crisp geometric shape against the long, straight curve of the shoreline.

Why Waukegan
A map of Waukegan appeals to Bradbury readers as much as to people who grew up along its lakefront. The bluff, the ravines and the harbour give it far more character on paper than its size suggests, and it pairs naturally with a Chicago print.
Change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to include a street, a family name or a year. Choose between Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files for printing at home or at a local shop cost $9.
