Te mapa
Agustín Codazzi is a municipality in the Cesar Department of northern Colombia, in the valley that lies between the Serranía del Perijá and the lowlands of the Cesar river. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets on flat ground, with fields spreading out to the west and the slopes of the mountain range beginning to the east.
The town is named after Agustín Codazzi, the Italian-born geographer who led a major survey and mapping project of Colombia in the nineteenth century. That connection gives a map of the place a certain fitting quality, since his work helped define how the country was drawn on paper for the first time.
The surrounding area has long been agricultural, with the flat valley suited to large fields and the foothills rising toward the Venezuelan border. An Agustín Codazzi map poster frames the town's regular streets against the open farmland and the edge of the mountains, a simple and legible composition.
The centre follows a regular pattern of blocks laid out on level ground, a clear, orderly shape at the heart of the map.
To the east, the land rises toward the Serranía del Perijá, giving the map a sense of edge where the valley gives way to higher ground.
Open fields spread across the flat land to the west, broken by rural roads and field boundaries that frame the town.
