Te mapa
Aisai lies in western Aichi Prefecture, on the Nōbi Plain between Nagoya and the Kiso River, which forms its western boundary. The land here is very flat and low, much of it close to or below sea level, and from above the city appears as a patchwork of fields, waterways and settlements linked by roads and Meitetsu rail lines.
The city was created in 2005 through the merger of several towns and villages. It is known for lotus root cultivation, particularly in the former Tatsuta area, where flooded fields of lotus plants spread across the countryside in summer. Levees, pumping stations and channels are a constant presence, reflecting the long effort to manage water in this delta landscape.
An Aisai map poster reveals a quiet, orderly landscape: rectangular fields, fine lines of irrigation and drainage, compact residential areas and the broad band of the Kiso River to the west. It is a calm, low-contrast composition with plenty of texture, suited to those who know western Aichi and its watery farmland.
The wide Kiso River runs along Aisai's western side, forming a strong natural border that frames the city and separates it from neighbouring prefectures.
Much of the farmland is used for lotus root cultivation, and the map shows these flooded plots as a fine, regular grid between villages and roads.
Channels and levees cross the flat land in long lines, a reminder of how carefully water is managed in this low-lying part of the Nōbi Plain.

Aisai is a place of fields, canals and quiet neighbourhoods rather than landmarks, which makes its map an honest portrait of home for residents and those who have moved away.
