Te mapa
Al Bawīţī is the main town of the Bahariya Oasis, in the Western Desert of Egypt, administratively part of Giza Governorate. From above, the town appears as a cluster of streets and houses surrounded by palm groves and cultivated plots, all set within a wide depression ringed by desert. Roads lead out toward other oasis villages and across the sand toward Cairo.
The oasis has been inhabited since ancient times, and in 1996 the Valley of the Golden Mummies was discovered nearby, revealing a large Greco-Roman burial site. Al Bawīţī is also the usual starting point for trips to the Black Desert and the White Desert, known for their striking landforms.
An Al Bawīţī map poster shows a town defined by contrast: green gardens and dense streets surrounded by open desert. In black and white, the edge between cultivated land and empty sand becomes a clear, evocative line, a reminder of how life gathers around water.
Palm groves and gardens surround the town, forming a detailed, irregular pattern that sets it apart from the empty desert beyond.
The town sits within the Bahariya depression, a broad basin enclosed by desert and scarps, framing the settlement.
Roads leave the oasis toward other villages and Cairo, drawing long straight lines across open sand.
