Te mapa
Alarobia lies in the Analamanga region of central Madagascar, in the hill country east of Antananarivo. The name is the Malagasy word for Wednesday, and several places across Madagascar carry the name of a weekday, often linked to the day a local market is held. This area has the rolling, heavily farmed landscape that surrounds the capital.
On a map the settlement follows the land. Roads curve along hillsides and ridges, houses gather where the ground is firm and dry, and the lower land between them opens out into irrigated fields. The pattern is irregular but not random: every line responds to slope and water, which gives the map a natural, organic look.
An Alarobia map poster keeps that organic quality. The streets appear as fine, winding lines with plenty of open space between them, so the print feels light and balanced. It is a thoughtful piece for anyone with ties to the highlands around Antananarivo, or for someone who wants to remember a specific place.
Roads follow the contours of the hills instead of running straight. On the poster they form smooth curves that show the shape of the land beneath them.
The valley floors between settled ridges are mainly used for farming. They read as calm open areas that balance the denser clusters of buildings.
Alarobia means Wednesday in Malagasy. Putting the name in large type across the top of the print gives it a meaning that Malagasy speakers will recognise straight away.
