The highway spine
The main road between Palakkad and Thrissur passes through town. Most of Alattūr's streets attach to it like ribs, which gives the map a clear central axis.

Te mapa
Alattūr lies in Palakkad district, the part of central Kerala where the hills of the Western Ghats open into a broad gap and the land flattens into rice country. From above, the town reads as a linear settlement. A main road carries most of the traffic, lanes branch off it at irregular angles, and the houses thin out quickly into cultivated land.
A map here shows the balance between built-up and open ground. Paddy fields form large pale blocks between clusters of streets. Irrigation channels and small streams trace thin lines through them, and a river of the Bharathapuzha basin winds past the town on its way west. The pattern is looser and greener than in coastal Kerala, where settlement runs almost without a break.
An Alattūr map poster draws this landscape in quiet linework: the road through the middle, the scattered lanes and the river bending past the fields. Palakkad is often called the rice bowl of Kerala. Even in black and white, the district's farming shows in how the streets are spaced and in the wide gaps between them.
The main road between Palakkad and Thrissur passes through town. Most of Alattūr's streets attach to it like ribs, which gives the map a clear central axis.
Wide paddy fields surround the settlement. On the poster they become open space between the streets, which gives the composition room and makes the built-up core read clearly.
A river curves near the town, joined by narrow streams and irrigation channels that thread through the surrounding fields as fine, wandering lines.
