Te mapa
Ankazondandy is a rural commune in the Analamanga region of central Madagascar, east of Antananarivo. It lies in the highland landscape typical of this part of the island: rounded hills, valleys and scattered settlements. A small centre serves the surrounding villages, and farming shapes the land in every direction.
From above the layout is loose and organic. Paths and minor roads follow the ridges and connect hamlets spread across the hills, while the valley floors are mostly given over to rice fields. There is no grid here. The pattern of the map comes from the terrain, with lines bending around slopes and joining at the few places where the land allows.
An Ankazondandy map poster is a quiet, understated piece. The black-and-white lines show a scattered network rather than a dense town, which gives the print a sparse, almost drawn feel. It suits people with family roots in the commune or anyone who wants to remember time spent in the highlands east of the capital.
Roads and paths tend to follow the higher ground between valleys. On the poster they appear as winding lines that trace the shape of the hills.
Low ground between the hills is used mainly for farming. On the map these areas show up as open space between the settled ridges.
Instead of one dense centre, small clusters of buildings are spread across the commune. Together they give the map an even, dotted texture.
