Te mapa
Arroio Grande lies in the far south of Rio Grande do Sul, in the flat grassland country near the border with Uruguay. Its name means big stream, and the watercourse it refers to is part of the town's setting on a map. The urban area is laid out as a tidy grid of rectangular blocks, a pattern common to towns of the Brazilian pampa, and it ends abruptly where the fields begin.
The town is known as the birthplace of Irineu Evangelista de Sousa, the Viscount of Mauá, the nineteenth-century industrialist and banker behind one of Brazil's first railways. Beyond that, it is a quiet farming centre. Cattle ranching and rice growing shape the land around it, and the wide waters of Lagoa Mirim lie to the east across the lowlands.
An Arroio Grande map poster rewards restraint. The even grid gives a calm, ordered texture, and the stream's bends break the geometry just enough to keep it interesting. In the Paper or Sand styles the print carries some of the warmth of the southern plains. In Classic or Noir it becomes a crisp study of blocks and open space.
Straight streets meet at right angles across the town. They produce a regular chequerboard of blocks that reads cleanly at every print size, from A3 to 24×36″.
The watercourse that gave Arroio Grande its name winds through the countryside close to town. It adds a natural, irregular line set against the strict geometry of the grid.
Broad fields of the southern plains stretch from the town towards Lagoa Mirim. They leave large, quiet areas on the map that frame the settlement.
