Te mapa
Viamão covers a wide stretch of land east of Porto Alegre, and on a map the two blur together along the western edge. Residential districts spread out from the old centre along a few main roads. Further out, the street grid thins into farmland, eucalyptus plantations and scattered settlements. The municipality is large, and most of its area is open ground.
Viamão is one of the oldest settlements in Rio Grande do Sul. In the eighteenth century it served as the seat of the colonial government, before the capital moved to Porto Alegre. The historic core still sits on a slight rise, with its main church at the centre. From there the streets fan out in a pattern that is older and less regular than the grids that came later.
A Viamão map poster shows the contrast well. The west is a dense tangle of neighbourhood streets. The south is almost empty, where Itapuã State Park meets the waters of the Guaíba and the Lagoa dos Patos. Between the two, rural roads cross the paper in long, loose lines, and the coastline makes a soft irregular edge.

In the far south, Itapuã State Park protects hills, beaches and lagoon shore where the Guaíba opens into the Lagoa dos Patos. It prints as a quiet area of water and curving coast.
Along the western boundary, Viamão's streets continue into those of the state capital with no visible break. The result is a dense web of roads that fades out gradually towards the east.

Koteā ko Viamão
For people who grew up here, or who commute every day between Viamão and Porto Alegre, this map makes the familiar routes visible. It shows the old centre and the roads leading out of it, with the lagoon marking the southern horizon.
You can personalise the title and subtitle and add a coordinates line or a date. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Paper and Sand styles work especially well with the open southern shoreline.
