Te mapa
Artemisa lies on the flat, fertile plain west of Havana. Seen from above, it has the orderly layout of many Cuban provincial towns: straight streets in a regular grid, a central square, and roads leaving the edge of town in long, direct lines across farmland. The countryside around it is famous for its deep red soil, which has given the town the nickname Villa Roja.
In 2011 Artemisa became the capital of a new province of the same name, created when the former Havana Province was divided. The town is also remembered in Cuban history as home to a large share of the young men who took part in the 1953 attack on the Moncada Barracks, and a memorial marks that connection.
An Artemisa map poster shows the steady rhythm of the grid, with the farmland patterns at its edges and the roads leading off toward the coast and the western hills. It is a restrained design for a town with a clear sense of its own place.
Straight, evenly spaced streets make up most of the town. In black and white they form a calm, repeating pattern with no visual clutter.
Around the town lie wide agricultural fields on the plain, known for their red soil. On the map they appear as open space and long rural tracks.
The main highway linking Havana with Pinar del Río runs past the town. It draws a long, confident line across the edge of the composition.

Koteā ko Artemisa
Cubans from Artemisa, living on the island or abroad, often keep a strong attachment to the Villa Roja. A plain map of home carries that feeling without needing a single photograph.
You can personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name or a meaningful year, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand gives a quiet nod to the earth around the town.
