Te mapa
Santa Clara lies near the geographical centre of Cuba, on low hills between the two coasts. Its map is anchored by Parque Vidal, a central square framed by colonial buildings, from which a tidy grid of streets extends in every direction. The pattern is clear and regular, typical of Spanish colonial planning.
Towards the edges, the grid becomes looser, meeting the Carretera Central, the island's main road, and the railway that runs through the city. On the western side, a large open plaza holds the Che Guevara Mausoleum and Monument, a clearly visible space on the map.
Santa Clara is known for the battle of December 1958, when revolutionary forces led by Che Guevara derailed an armoured train here, a turning point in the Cuban Revolution. A Santa Clara map poster traces the city where that happened: calm streets, a central park and a place of memory at its edge.
The main square sits at the exact centre of the grid, a small open rectangle from which streets extend in straight lines towards the city's edges.
The broad plaza of the Che Guevara memorial opens up on the western side, a large empty space that stands out clearly against surrounding blocks.
The railway crosses the city and recalls the armoured train episode of 1958, its rails forming a long straight line through the otherwise square grid.

Koteā ko Santa Clara
Santa Clara attracts people interested in Cuban history, but it is also simply home to many families across the island and abroad. A map of its grid is a quiet reminder of a central park, of evenings in the square and of a place in the middle of everything.
