Te mapa
Arvayheer is the administrative centre of Övörhangay Province in central Mongolia. It lies on open steppe south of the Khangai mountains. From above, the town is a small patch of streets surrounded by a great deal of open land. Main roads run in straight lines through the centre, and the edges thin out into scattered plots.
As in many Mongolian provincial centres, the town has two kinds of layout. The central blocks hold offices, schools and apartment buildings. Around them are fenced plots, many with a ger as well as a house. On a map this shows as a regular core ringed by a looser pattern of small enclosures.
An Arvayheer map poster is mostly quiet space, which is a big part of its appeal. The roads leading out across the steppe are the strongest lines on the sheet, joining the town to the rest of the province and the country. With so little to fill it, the empty ground around the town takes up much of the design.
Open grassland surrounds the town in every direction. On the poster the built-up area sits like an island, with lots of empty space around it.
Around the centre, streets divide the land into fenced household plots. From above they form a loose, irregular pattern, clearly different from the ordered blocks in the core.
A few roads leave the town in straight lines across the steppe. They are the main connections to the wider region and give the map its strongest direction.

Koteā ko Arvayheer
Arvayheer is a good choice for anyone from Övörhangay or who has travelled through central Mongolia. The poster shows a place defined by open space, with a small, ordered town set in a very large landscape.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates, such as a family name or a year, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand and Paper bring out the steppe feeling especially well.
