Te mapa
Ulanqab's central urban area, the Jining district, lies on the Inner Mongolian plateau at an elevation of more than a thousand metres. From above, the city is a planned layout of broad avenues and large blocks, with generous spacing and long straight roads. Around it the street network quickly gives way to farmland, grassland and low hills, and rail lines cross the plain toward Beijing and Hohhot.
The city is sometimes called China's potato capital, thanks to the scale of potato farming across the surrounding prefecture. Its cool, dry climate has also made it a centre for large data centres run by major technology companies. Ulanqab lies on the route between Beijing and Hohhot, and high-speed rail now links it to both.
An Ulanqab map poster emphasises space. The wide avenues form a clear, open lattice, the rail lines add long curves, and the surrounding plateau leaves the edges almost empty. In black and white the city reads as a calm, geometric shape set in a vast landscape, a portrait of a place defined by distance and scale.
The centre is laid out on long, straight roads and oversized blocks, a modern planning pattern that appears on the poster as a clean, open grid.
Conventional and high-speed railways pass through the city toward Beijing and Hohhot, adding long, gently curving lines that cross the frame.
Beyond the built-up area, farmland and grassland stretch out with only scattered roads, leaving wide empty margins that frame the city on the poster.

Koteā ko Ulanqab
Ulanqab speaks to people from Inner Mongolia, to those who have worked on its farms or in its data centres, and to anyone drawn to wide, open landscapes. The map is a minimal, contemplative image that suits a calm, uncluttered room.
