Xilin Hot Map Poster & Print
Xilin Hot is the administrative seat of Xilingol League in central Inner Mongolia, and its map looks like a planned town placed on an enormous open steppe. The streets are broad and mostly straight, the blocks are generous, and the city's edges meet grassland with little in between. Few cities show so plainly how a street grid looks when no hills or coastlines bend it.
The Xilin River passes near the town and shares its name with both the city and the surrounding league. In the older part of the city stands Beizi Temple, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery on a low hill that predates most of the modern town. Around it the grid briefly gives way to more irregular paths and courtyards.
