Te mapa
As Samū‘ sits in the hills south of Hebron, where the West Bank starts to give way to drier country toward the Negev. From above, the town has no strict grid. Its streets follow the contours of the slopes, bending around ridges and dropping into shallow wadis, so the road pattern reads almost like a topographic sketch.
The older core is compact and dense, with short, irregular lanes packed tightly together. Newer housing spreads outward along the roads that link the town to its neighbours, leaving open ground between the built-up fingers. Terraced fields and olive plots fill much of that space. On a map it shows up as quiet white between the lines.
The town appears in accounts of the 1966 Samu raid, one of the events that came before the 1967 war. A As Samū‘ map poster leaves that history in the background and shows the place itself: a hillside settlement shaped by terrain, by the roads it grew along, and by the farmland between them.
Roads curve with the slopes instead of crossing them at right angles, so the street network traces the hills almost as clearly as elevation lines would.
At the centre, a tight knot of short lanes and small blocks forms the darkest patch on the print, in contrast to the looser housing around it.
Fields and olive terraces between the built-up areas show as open space, which gives the composition room to breathe and hints at the farming around the town.
