Asino Map Poster & Print
Asino is a town in Tomsk Oblast, western Siberia, on the Chulym River east of Tomsk. Taiga forest and wetland surround it. On the map the town is a compact block of streets on the riverbank, set in dense green space broken only by roads, clearings and the railway that shaped its growth.
Asino grew in the twentieth century around the railway line from Tomsk and the timber industry, which used the river and the rails to move logs out of the surrounding forest. Woodworking is still closely associated with the town. The Chulym, a tributary of the Ob, winds widely here and leaves old channels and lakes across its floodplain.
