Te mapa
Atar is the main town of the Adrar region in northern Mauritania, surrounded by the Sahara. It has long been a trading and supply centre for the region and is the usual starting point for journeys to the old caravan towns of Chinguetti and Ouadane. The town is built at the edge of the Adrar plateau, where rocky uplands meet sand.
The most distinctive feature of the map is the palm grove. Date palms grow along a seasonal riverbed next to the town and form a long, dark band of vegetation. Next to it is the town itself, a grid of low, flat-roofed buildings and wide sandy streets. An airstrip and the main roads lead out into the desert.
An Atar map poster has a very clear structure: a green strip of oasis, a compact town and a great deal of empty land around it. In black and white, the empty space becomes an important part of the design. It emphasises how concentrated life is here and gives the poster a strong, quiet presence.

The town is laid out in broad, fairly regular blocks with wide sandy streets. Its pattern is simple and spacious.
Roads and tracks lead out onto the Adrar plateau, towards Chinguetti and Ouadane, and draw long lines across the empty desert.

Koteā ko Atar
A map of Atar suits people who have travelled through the Adrar or have family in northern Mauritania. Its large empty spaces and dark oasis make an unusual image that stands out among city maps.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with the date of a desert journey. Sand and Paper suit the landscape well, and Noir makes the oasis stand out. HD files cost $9, and printed posters are available in more than 30 countries.
