Augusto Corrêa lies on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Pará, in a region of estuaries, mangroves and sandy beaches. From above, the town is a small cluster of streets near a tidal river, with land and water interlocking along a ragged coastline. Creeks cut inland, and patches of mangrove appear as irregular shapes along the shore.
Fishing and crab gathering in the mangroves are central to life here, as in many towns along this stretch of the Pará coast. The area shares its landscape with neighbouring Bragança, and local roads connect the coast with the interior.
