Te mapa
Badīyah lies in the North Sharqiyah Governorate of Oman, in the dry country between the Hajar Mountains and the great sand sea to the south. On a map, the settlement follows a wadi, with houses, lanes and irrigated palm groves forming a long band along the watercourse. Beyond it, the land opens into gravel plains and dunes.
As in many Omani oases, date palms are watered by channels that carry groundwater to the fields, and the green areas are closely tied to the old village cores. Badīyah is also one of the towns travellers pass through on the way to the Sharqiyah Sands, the desert often called Wahiba.
A Badīyah map poster is mostly space: a thin, irregular band of lanes and gardens, a main road passing through, and the empty plain on either side. That emptiness is the point. The small shapes of the town look precise and deliberate against it, and the Sand style is a natural match.
Houses and palm groves follow the course of a wadi, so the town takes the shape of a long, loose band rather than a round centre.
Date palm gardens sit close to the village cores, marked by small irregular plots and lanes that wind among them.
South of the town the ground opens toward the Sharqiyah Sands, leaving wide blank areas around the settlement on the map.
