Te mapa
Bahía Honda takes its name from its harbour. The name means deep bay, and from above the bay dominates the frame. A narrow mouth opens from the Atlantic side of western Cuba into a wide body of water with irregular inlets and coves. The town sits near this water, and its modest street grid stands out against the curves of the shoreline.
The bay has a place in diplomatic history. In the 1903 agreement between Cuba and the United States, Bahía Honda was named alongside Guantánamo as a site for an American naval station. The United States gave up its claim here in 1912 in exchange for a larger area at Guantánamo, so the harbour remained a quiet working bay on the northern coast of Artemisa.
A Bahía Honda map poster puts the settlement's straight blocks against the loose outline of the harbour. Inland, the roads spread thinly toward the low ranges of western Cuba and the land turns to farmland and scattered settlement. In monochrome, the map shows the water and a town that grew up beside it, one set of shapes drawn by nature and the other laid out by people.
A sheltered harbour reached through a narrow opening from the sea. Its uneven arms and coves make the bay the largest and most striking shape on the map.
The town's regular blocks form a tight rectangle of streets. Their straight lines contrast with the organic outline of the surrounding shore.
Low, broken shoreline runs along the bay's edges. On paper the boundary between land and water becomes a fine, irregular line.

Koteā ko Bahía Honda
For people with family roots in Artemisa, or anyone who has travelled along Cuba's northern coast, this map puts a harbour with a long story on the wall. The bay's outline is distinctive enough to work almost as an abstract drawing.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a family name or date, and the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The poster is available as a $9 set of HD files or as a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
