Baihe is a town in southern Gansu Province, China, in the mountainous country near Longnan. The land here is dominated by steep ridges and deep valleys. Settlements follow the rivers because the valley floors are the only flat ground, and from above that constraint shapes everything.
The town stretches along its valley in a long, narrow strip. Streets run parallel to the river and are crossed by short lanes and bridges. Roads trace the valley bends in and out of town, and terraced fields and small villages cling to the lower slopes.
