Te mapa
Baixo Guandu sits on the Rio Doce in the northwest of Espírito Santo, close to the state line with Minas Gerais. Its name refers to the lower course of the Guandu River, which joins the Rio Doce here. On a map the rivers dominate. A wide band of water sweeps past the town, and the tributary's mouth cuts a clear notch in the bank.
The town's streets run parallel to the river and then climb toward the hills behind. They form a long settlement that is shallow from front to back. Bridges and a railway line along the valley link the town to the rest of the region. The Vitória–Minas railway follows the Rio Doce here and carries iron ore to the coast. Around the town, the land rises into rolling, partly wooded hills.
A Baixo Guandu map poster is built around water. It shows the confluence, the long curve of the Rio Doce and a town that has always faced the river. The composition is simple and strong: a thick band of river, a fringe of streets and the steady line of the railway along the valley.
The Guandu River meets the Rio Doce at the town. This forms the defining junction of water around which the whole settlement is arranged.
The broad Rio Doce runs past the town in a wide curve. It gives the poster a large, calm area of water against the dense streets.
A railway follows the river valley through the region. It draws a long steady line that runs parallel to the water and the town.
