Te mapa
Banes lies in Holguín Province on Cuba's northeastern coast, at the inner end of the Bay of Banes. The bay cuts deep into the land in a long, narrow shape, and on a map the town spreads inland from its shore. The centre follows a regular grid of blocks, and the edges thin into lower houses and farmland.
In the early twentieth century, the American United Fruit Company ran large sugar and banana operations here. It left its mark on the town, including a separate district of company houses. Banes is also the birthplace of Fulgencio Batista, who led Cuba before the revolution, and it holds a place in the history of the Castro family as well.
A Banes map poster also takes in the bay and surrounding countryside, an area rich in pre-Columbian archaeology. Sites such as Chorro de Maíta, an indigenous burial ground, make the Banes region one of the most important in Cuba for Taíno history.
The long, narrow bay reaches far inland and gives the map a strong shape: water on one side and the town on the gentle slopes around it.
The former United Fruit Company settlement, with its own street layout, sits apart from the historic grid and reflects the town's twentieth-century past.
The hills around Banes hold important Taíno sites. On the map they sit in rolling farmland crossed by country roads.

The poster suits Cubans from Holguín, people with family history in the sugar era, and anyone interested in the island's lesser-known coastal towns. The bay and the grid give the design a clear structure.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters are shipped by print partners in more than 30 countries.
