Te mapa
Barabinsk lies in Novosibirsk Oblast, in western Siberia, on the Baraba Lowland, a wide flat plain known for its lakes, marshes and birch groves. The town grew up around a station on the Trans-Siberian Railway, and on a map that line is still the strongest feature, crossing the town as a long straight band.
Streets on both sides of the railway form a regular grid of mostly low-rise blocks. Around the edges, the map shows open land and small patches of water, typical of the lowland landscape. The flatness means roads can run straight for long distances, and the town looks orderly and evenly spread from above.
A Barabinsk map poster highlights the relationship between the railway and the town: tracks, sidings and station yards in the middle, and a grid of streets arranged around them. For people with ties to the place, it is a clear reminder of how the town fits along one of the world's longest railway lines.
The railway runs straight through Barabinsk, with tracks and yards forming a thick band across the map that gives the whole composition its axis.
On either side of the tracks, straight streets and rectangular blocks make up the town, a layout typical of Siberian railway settlements.
Beyond the town, small lakes and wetlands of the Baraba Lowland appear as scattered shapes on the flat plain.
