Te mapa
Baro lies on the north bank of the Niger River in Niger State, central Nigeria. It has a special place in the country's transport history. In the early twentieth century it was chosen as the river terminus of the Baro–Kano railway, one of the first major rail lines in northern Nigeria. Goods could be moved between the river and the interior here.
On the map, the Niger is the defining feature: a wide, braided river with sandbanks and channels running across the frame. The town itself is modest, a loose cluster of roads and compounds on the higher ground by the water, with rail and road alignments leading inland.
A Baro map poster brings out that relationship between a large river and a small settlement built to serve it. The broad sweep of the Niger fills much of the composition. The town's streets and the transport lines leaving it tell the story of a place made for moving goods between water and land.

Baro was the southern river terminus of the early Baro–Kano railway. The alignment leading inland from the riverbank is a reminder of the town's role as a transfer point.
The town's roads and compounds cluster close to the water. The small, irregular street pattern contrasts with the scale of the river beside it.
