Te mapa
Barquisimeto lies in Lara State in western Venezuela, on a plateau above the valley of the Turbio River. From above, the city is unusually regular. Its colonial grid of straight streets and square blocks stretches across the flat land for kilometres. Long avenues run through it and link the centre with the growing districts on its edges. To the south, the ground drops away to the river valley.
This clear, repeating pattern is what makes the map so readable. Parks and plazas appear as small open squares within the grid. Along the edges, the grid gives way to the curving roads of newer neighbourhoods and the dry, hilly country beyond. On a Barquisimeto map poster, the contrast between the strict grid and the loose outskirts is striking.
Barquisimeto is often called the musical capital of Venezuela, thanks to its long tradition of musicians and orchestras. Each January, the Divina Pastora procession carries a statue of the Virgin Mary from nearby Santa Rosa into the city. It is one of the largest Marian processions in the world, drawing crowds of pilgrims.
Straight streets and square blocks spread across the plateau in a regular pattern. It is one of the clearest and most orderly street grids on the continent.
South of the city the land drops toward the river. There the grid ends, and the roads become irregular as they follow the slope.
Small open squares and larger green spaces sit within the grid, giving the dense pattern regular pauses.

Barquisimeto is for anyone who grew up among its avenues, followed the Divina Pastora procession, or studied music there. The strict grid makes a bold, graphic poster that suits modern interiors.
