Te mapa
Barrett Town is a community in Saint James Parish on Jamaica's north coast, east of Montego Bay. The terrain rises quickly from the shore, and the settlement spreads over hilly ground with lanes that twist to follow the slopes. The map has an informal, organic pattern, with roads branching off one another and ending in small clusters of houses.
The area sits within reach of the resort coast and Montego Bay's airport, and many residents work in the city and the tourism industry around it. Around the built-up parts the land stays green and uneven, with gullies and hillsides the roads have to work around.
A Barrett Town map poster shows that relationship between people and terrain: narrow, winding streets, a few main routes connecting down toward the coast, and open ground between the neighbourhoods. The result is a loose, hand-drawn-looking composition, very different from a planned grid.
Roads curve and branch across the slopes, following the easiest path through the terrain and creating an organic, irregular street pattern.
Main routes run down toward the north coast and the Montego Bay area, connecting the hillside community to the shoreline below.
Between clusters of houses the land stays open and uneven, so the map alternates between detailed streets and quiet empty space.
