Te mapa
Batubulan lies in Gianyar regency, just north-east of Denpasar, on the main road toward Ubud. From above, the village follows this road in a long line, with house compounds and workshops pressed close to it. Behind the roadside, the land opens into rice terraces, cut by rivers that run in narrow gorges toward the southern coast.
The village is known across Bali for its stone carving. Workshops line the street, producing temple guardians and ornamental figures in soft volcanic stone. Batubulan is also known for daily Barong and Kris dance performances, which many visitors attend on their way into the island's interior.
A Batubulan map poster shows a typical Balinese settlement pattern: a strong spine of road, the tight grain of family compounds and the looser shapes of fields and river valleys around them. It is a lovely reminder of a trip to Bali, or of a home among the carving workshops of Gianyar.
The village stretches along the busy road linking Denpasar and Ubud, a long line that gives the map a clear central axis.
Roadside compounds hold stone carving studios. On the map they appear as the dense edge of settlement along the main route.
Rivers cut through the surrounding farmland in winding lines, separating village from village and adding flowing curves to the composition.
